As a family-owned business, we know the area because we’re residents here ourselves. Our staff of professional technicians are experienced and trained in water treatment products and technologies, and we’re constantly improving our knowledge and skills through continuing education.

Our Team
Aaron Simmons
General Manager, Partner
Aaron earned his B.S. from Pennsylvania State University. He has certifications in technology installation and implementation, reverse osmosis, ultra-filtration and filtration from the Water Quality Association. Prior to joining Automatic Water Conditioning Co. he was general manager for one the largest technology retailers. He’s is an alumnus of Eaglebrook School & Northfield-Mount Herman Schools in MA. He’s an Eagle Scout and neighbor in our community.
Bill Simmons
Partner
Bill has a BS in Chemistry from Missouri Western State University and an MBA from Queens College. He began his career as a chemist in Ag-chemicals and was responsible for testing and industrial wastewater treatment systems that included sediment filters, pH adjustment and granular activated carbon treatment to remove chemicals from the waste water. Later as a senior executive his responsibilities included pharmaceutical manufacturing where he was responsible for water purification systems used to make injectable drugs. Bill’s experience and knowledge of water treatment systems, water testing, and system designs contributes to our technical expertise.
Our History
Automatic Water Conditioning Co.’s story starts just after World War II in Bernardsville, NJ, native John Madden learned, while serving in the armed forces, about water filtration and the importance of water purification. Armed with that knowledge and seeing a need in his home town in 1948, he started Automatic Water Conditioning Co. operating out of his home on Stevens street and working out of a station wagon.
Over the years John took on more employees, and the company grew to be a key supplier of custom water filtration solutions in central New Jersey. Automatic Water Conditioning still manufactures most of its filtration systems in-house and does custom design solutions from point of use systems to commercial and municipal treatment applications. In 2011 John’s son sold the business to the Simmons Family; wanting to keep the business as a family owned operation that is owned by the Simmons family and operated by Aaron.
A lot has changed over the years since the business began in the 1940’s. Technology has increased efficiency and there are more options, but the basic principles remain the same. Today’s challenges stem from ever growing populations and emerging contaminants such as PFOA’s, Lead, Chromium, and the ever growing presence of Personal Care Products and Pharmaceuticals found in today’s water supplies. Today’s consumers are looking for more robust filtration than in years past to treat these emerging contaminants, and as water treatment utilities struggle to maintain quality and contain costs; we are stepping up to help consumers obtain control over the water they consume. With 70 years of experience, and the WQA’s highest certification level behind us, we are here to apply our experience and knowledge in a way to enable our customer to meet or exceed their water quality goals.
